165 CMS ANNIVERSARY
Excerpts from the sermon @ St Stephen's Church, Inland Town Onitsha, preached by Ven Izu
TOPIC: HOPES FOR THE HELPLESS
TEXT: Ps 10:17
God saw that humanity needed help, and without waiting for man to pray for it, He sent him help by sending His only begotten son - Jn 3:16.
Likewise, in 1857, the CMS Missionaries saw that Igboland needed help, and without waiting for the people to pray for it, they arrived Onitsha, with hopes and packages of help:
Hospitals
Education/Colleges
Foods
Churches
Termination & reduction of evil practices
Trained missionary teachers, nurses, Doctors, etc. In the same vein, considering the state of helplessness and hopelessness in which we are, the Christians and Churches of today need to create more readily available avenues of bringing HOPES TO THE HELPLESS in our society and environments without waiting for them to beg, pray or solicit for it, thereby following the footsteps of Jesus Christ our Lord & the footprints of the CMS Missionaries.
Blessings🙏
