FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: SUNDAY, 31ST JULY, 2022  TOPIC: FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT TEXT: GALATIANS 5:16-26  16.  I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17.  For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18.  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19.  Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20.  idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21.  envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told [you] in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22.  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness

GIVE YOUR BEST TO THE LORD

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: FRIDAY, 29TH JULY, 2022  TOPIC: GIVE YOUR BEST TO THE LORD TEXT: JOHN 12:1-8 1. Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. 2. There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. 3. Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. 4. Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's [son,] who would betray Him, said, 5.  "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" 6.  This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it. 7.  But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of

I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father. 14.  I have written t

Also the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 16. “Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes with one stroke; yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, nor shall your tears run down.  17. Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead; bind your turban on your head, and put your sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips, and do not eat man’s bread of sorrow.”  18. So I spoke to the people in the morning, and at evening my wife died; and the next morning I did as I was commanded. 19. And the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things signify to us, that you behave so?”  20. Then I answered them, “The word of the Lord came to me, saying,  21. ‘Speak to the house of Israel, “Thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, your arrogant boast, the desire of your eye

Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve [were] with Him, 2. and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities -- Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, 3. and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance. MESSAGE:  Mary Magdalene was one of the women that followed and supported Jesus’ ministry when He was here on earth. She was one of the early followers of Jesus Christ and certainly deserves to be called a discip

Then I said I would pour out My fury on them and fulfill My anger against them in the wilderness. 22.  "Nevertheless I withdrew My hand and acted for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the Gentiles, in whose sight I had brought them out. 23.  "Also I raised My hand in an oath to those in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the Gentiles and disperse them throughout the countries, 24.  "because they had not executed My judgments, but had despised My statutes, profaned My Sabbaths, and their eyes were fixed on their fathers' id

The word of the LORD came to me again, saying, 2. "What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children's teeth are set on edge'? 3. The word of the LORD came again to me, saying: 13. “Son of man, when a land sins against Me by persistent unfaithfulness, I will stretch out My hand against it; I will cut off its supply of bread, send famine on it, and cut off man and beast from it.  14. Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver only themselves by their righteousness,” says the Lord God.  15. “If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they empty it, and make it so desolate that no man may pass through because of the beasts,  16. even though these three men were in it, as I live,” says the Lord God, “they would deliver neither sons nor daughters; only they would be delivered, and the land would be desolate.  17. “Or if I bring a sword on that land, and say, ‘Sword, go through the land,’

TRANSFORMATION BY RENEWAL OF THE MIND

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: SUNDAY, 17TH JULY, 2022  TOPIC: TRANSFORMATION BY RENEWAL OF THE MIND TEXT: ROMANS 12:1-8  1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your reasonable service. 2. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what [is] that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 3. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5.  so we, [being] many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6.  Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, [let

CHILDREN, OBEY YOUR PARENTS

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: SATURDAY, 16TH JULY, 2022  TOPIC: CHILDREN, OBEY YOUR PARENTS TEXT: EPHESIANS 6:1-4  1. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2. "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: 3. "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." 4. And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. MESSAGE:  Our passage today shows how Paul pointed out the responsibilities of children in the home - they are to obey their parents with unreserved respect. In other words, they must carry out the instructions of their parents without rebuffing. Quoting from the Old Testament, Paul emphasised that it is the first commandment with a promise of long life and prosperity (vv. 1-3; Exodus 20:12). That is, obedient children will live to fulfil their days on the land

DIVINE PRINCIPLE FOR A HAPPY HOME (II)

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: FRIDAY, 15TH JULY, 2022  TOPIC: DIVINE PRINCIPLE FOR A HAPPY HOME (II) TEXT: EPHESIANS 5:25-33  25.  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26.  that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27.  that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28.  So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29.  For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord [does] the church. 30.  For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31.  "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." 32.  This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Chri

BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: WEDNESDAY, 13TH JULY, 2022  TOPIC: BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT TEXT: EPHESIANS 5:18-21 18.  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19.  speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20.  giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21.  submitting to one another in the fear of God. MESSAGE:  The Holy Spirit is the third Person in Trinity. He is the Promise and Gift of God to all believers in Christ. Jesus Christ told His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit had come upon them and they would be His witnesses in every part of the world (Acts1:8).  In our text today, Paul admonished the believers in Ephesus not to get drunk with wine but to be filled with the Holy Spirit. To be filled with the Holy Spirit

YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: TUESDAY, 12TH JULY, 2022  TOPIC: YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD TEXT: EPHESIANS 5: 13-17  13.  But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14.  Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light." 15.  See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16.  redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17.  Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord [is.] MESSAGE:  One major characteristic of light is that it exposes (v.13). In other words, it does not allow anything to hide from sight. Nothing is hidden where light is present. Jesus says in Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Believers in Christ are the light of the world. This is the background of Paul’s position in our passage today. A

STOP THAT FELLOWSHIP

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) DATE: MONDAY, 11TH JULY, 2022  TOPIC: STOP THAT FELLOWSHIP TEXT: EPHESIANS 5:11-12  11.  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose [them.] 12.  For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. MESSAGE:  The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines fellowship as an organised group of people who share an interest, aim or belief. In the two verses in our text, Apostle Paul was emphatic in telling the Ephesian Church not to fellowship with unfruitful works of darkness. This was not the first time he would be addressing people on this matter. He also mentioned it to the Church at Corinth in his second letter that they should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers and their works (2Cor. 6:14-18). Beloved, every Child of God is known by what he or she does or associates with (Matt. 7:17).  Amos 3:3 says “Can two walk together unle

Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand." 10.  So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11.  And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12.  But Moses' hands [became] heavy; so they took a stone and put [it] under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13.  So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. 14.  Then the LORD said to
