STOP THAT AXE!

 Memorise: "And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire" (Matthew 3:10)  Read: Daniel 4:13-14 13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven; 14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches  Message: "I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven" (Daniel 4:13). The big, beautiful and fruitful tree in king Nebuchadnezzar's dream was under observation. You are under observation. You are constantly being watched by unseen forces. Some leaders believe the higher they climb, the more difficult it becomes for anyone to monitor them closely. That is not true! The reality is that the hig

THE PASTOR AND YOU

It is not only the work of preaching, the calling and administrative duties that weary down the pastor but the physical wearingness, the nervous exhaustion that results from strained relationship between him and his congregation.  When there is misunderstanding, lack of understanding and even opposition involving honest differences of opinion, the pastor feels the pressure. The pastor of course could never dream to satisfy everyone, that is the simple truth.  This awesome of our reactions to our pastors: If he is young-he lacks experience If he is old-he cannot identify with the youth If he has five or six children-he has too many If he has none or one-he is setting bad example If he preaches from note-he is dogmatic and his services are dry If the services are extemporaneous-he is not deep enough If he uses illustration-he is neglecting the bible If he does not involve stories-he is not clear If he condemns wrong-he is playing holier than thou attitude If he does not -he is a compro

EASTER HOMILY

EASTER HOMILY Preached by the Most Reverend Robert Duncan at the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh Vigil, in St. Peter's Church in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, on Easter Eve, 7th April, A.D.2012. They were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb? [Mark 16:3] In the Name of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, One God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Blessed and Praised forever: Amen. In all four gospels it is women who come first to the tomb. Matthew, Mark and Luke all tell us the purpose: to anoint Jesus' body. Burial on Friday had been hurried. At least the soldiers had not broken his legs to speed death. He was already dead. The Sabbath was at hand. In the moment, Joseph of Arimathea was moved to give his own freshly hewn tomb, which was, St. John tells us, very near to the Place of the Skull. Nicodemus, John tells us, had given spices, but Jesus' own inner circle had not been able to care for his body in the customary

LETTER TO PRESIDENT GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN

Dear President GEJ,  I voted for you in the Presidential Polls and was branded different names for doing so. But I wanted your promised 'breath of fresh air'.   Even now, I have been called to remember what they told me then that.   #1. You cannot honour your words/agreements - now, though there were protests against it, your administration promised to so implement it in April. But you have disregarded your initial arrangement and implemented the Subsidy removal in January.  #2. I believe there is a cabal that is making fortunes at the cost of the Nation via the Subsidy and its removal will be beneficial to us all. But this should have been done when and only when the necessary arrangements to cushion the after effects of subsidy removal have been put in place.  The Refineries should all be working at a hundred percent.  The private refineries (licensed/yet to be licensed) should have started operations. The rumoured transport arrangements by your administration ought to ha

Pneumonia: Facts you should know

It disrupts the normal process of gas exchange, wherein oxygen is taken into the body and the waste product carbon dioxide removed. This leads to the interruption of oxygen supply to the tissues which is potentially fatal. This can occur all Year round, especially during the Harmattan and Rainy months. It can affect People of any age. What Causes Pneumonia? It often follows another illness, such as a cold or the flu. How can Pneumonia be contacted? I

Even to this moment, the children and I don’t know why she did i

INTERVIEW WITH THE PRIMATE, CHURCH OF NIGERIA, (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

INTERVIEW WITH THE PRIMATE, CHURCH OF NIGERIA, (ANGLICAN COMMUNION), THE MOST REVD. PETER J. AKINOLA, CON AT THE ON-GOING ONE WEEK BISHOP RETREAT AT IBRU CENTRE, AGBARHA-OTOR Theme of the Retreat and what you have for the bishops and the Church We are going to focus on discipleship which is a continuation of what we started last year when we introduced the subject of “youths of our Church”. You will recall that I was to retire January 2009 but haven been asked to stay to the end of my primatial tenure which is March 2010, I was not going to start a new visioning process but rather I would take two aspects of the original vision we had and work more on these two areas and the two areas picked were youth of our Church and Christian Discipleship. So, at this Retreat, we are going to be looking at discipleship of the members of the church in its various ramifications. The reasons being that we have seen a lot of lapses and misbehaviour on the part of many Christians in this country in vari
