THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

DATE: TUESDAY, 10TH OCTOBER, 2023

TOPIC: GOD OF SECOND A CHANCE

TEXT: JONAH 2:1-10

1. Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish's belly.
2. And he said: "I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. "Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, [And] You heard my voice.
3. For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.
4. Then I said, 'I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.'
5.  The waters surrounded me, [even] to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head.
6.  I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars [closed] behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD, my God.
7.  "When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went [up] to You, Into Your holy temple.
8.  "Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy.
9.  But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation [is] of the LORD."
10.  So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry [land.]

MESSAGE:
Oh how merciful and gracious our God is! Of a truth, He is slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. Although men see Him as too slow in executing judgment upon evil doers, He has no interest in the death of a sinner but that all men through His son, Jesus Christ, will cross from death to life eternal. Jonah the prophet received an assignment from the Lord to go proclaim God's judgment on a nation. He turned down the assignment and fled but God caught up with him through a storm that attacked the ship and caused the sailors to throw him overboard into the sea. This should have meant the end of Jonah but God never gave up on Him; He did the miraculous to give the prophet a second chance to fulfil His will. God could have rescued Jonah through different means but He chose the method that would affect the heart of Jonah the most.
Although God hates disobedience and rebellion, yet He is the God of a second chance. The event that would have ended the life of Jonah was used by God to drive the prophet to a point of another opportunity to get the work done. Is there any assignment given to you by God which you are reluctant to do? Have you failed God many times and think you stand no chance of making amends anymore? The God of a second chance is preserving of your life despite your failures, unfaithfulness and unfruitfulness. Jonah prayed and God answered! Arise from where you are and do not allow this second chance to slip off your hands.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
God will always give a second chance but there is a second chance that will be the last chance, make no further delay.

EXCERPTS FROM: 24/7 WARFARE PRAYERS AND SUPERNATURAL BREAKTHROUGH MANUAL

INTRODUCTION Right from childhood, the number “SEVEN” has always been an intrigue, an interesting puzzle, a fascination, and a great phenomenon to me. I was actually born on the seventh day of the month; perhaps this was one of the reasons why something leaps inside of me whenever I see the number. But as I grew up in the Christian faith I began to see a regular reference to it the scriptures. I was kind of saying, whoa! Holy bliss! Seven occurs 257 times, or 7 × 41 Seventh, the fractional part occurs 98 times or 7× 14 Seven –fold occurs 7 times. Seventy occurs 56 times or 7× 8 “Seventy” in combination with other numbers occurs 35 times or 7× 5. God is pleased to stamp the number “Seven” with the seal of perfection and completeness. God never down played the importance of the number, because it was the number of God. It is a carrier of God’s mysteries. It pleased God that, the Seventh man from Adam – Enoch sh
