DIVINE EXPECTATION

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

DATE: THURSDAY, 5TH JANUARY, 2023

TOPIC: DIVINE EXPECTATION

TEXT: MATTHEW 5:27-30

27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
28. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
30. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

MESSAGE:
While we live in this world as Christians, we should not allow the world to live in us. If we do, the world will subject us to its own standards. In our text today, Jesus deals with the subject of adultery. He says that sexual desire towards someone other than one’s spouse is mental adultery and hence sinful. In Mathew 5:20, Jesus says, “Unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Getting rid of one’s right eye or right hand to secure the kingdom of heaven (v.29), is an illustration that expresses the weight we need to attach to our heavenly mission. Heavenly matters are serious matters that deserve serious commitment and sacrifice.

Job 31:1 says, “I made a covenant with my eyes, why then should I look upon a young woman.” This matter is serious. Take heed: Sexual sin in any form kills. Say no to it! Your body is God’s temple. Do not lure people to sexual sin and do not allow people to lure you into it.

PRAYER:
Give me the grace O Lord, to live according to Your set standards.

EXCERPTS FROM: 24/7 WARFARE PRAYERS AND SUPERNATURAL BREAKTHROUGH MANUAL

INTRODUCTION Right from childhood, the number “SEVEN” has always been an intrigue, an interesting puzzle, a fascination, and a great phenomenon to me. I was actually born on the seventh day of the month; perhaps this was one of the reasons why something leaps inside of me whenever I see the number. But as I grew up in the Christian faith I began to see a regular reference to it the scriptures. I was kind of saying, whoa! Holy bliss! Seven occurs 257 times, or 7 × 41 Seventh, the fractional part occurs 98 times or 7× 14 Seven –fold occurs 7 times. Seventy occurs 56 times or 7× 8 “Seventy” in combination with other numbers occurs 35 times or 7× 5. God is pleased to stamp the number “Seven” with the seal of perfection and completeness. God never down played the importance of the number, because it was the number of God. It is a carrier of God’s mysteries. It pleased God that, the Seventh man from Adam – Enoch sh
