THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: WEDNESDAY, 9TH MARCH, 2022
TOPIC: THE CERTAINTY OF GOD’S PROMISES
TEXT: HEBREWS 6:13-20
13. For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,
14. saying, "Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you."
15. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
16. For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation [is] for them an end of all dispute.
17. Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed [it] by an oath,
18. that by two immutable things, in which it [is] impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before [us.]
19. This [hope] we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence [behind] the veil,
20. where the forerunner has entered for us, [even] Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
MESSAGE:
In our passage today we see that God is faithful to keep His promises. He fulfilled His promises to Abraham to bless and multiply his seed (Gen. 12.1-3) He also promised the children of Israel that He would settle them in the land of Canaan, and He did (Josh. 21.45). God is true to His word. He sealed His promises to Abraham with an oath in own His name (v.13); His promises therefore are unchanging and trustworthy because He can never lie (vs. 17-18).
We are encouraged to wait for God’s timing even when our desires seem too urgent to wait any longer. Learn to wait on him because He does not fail. The fulfilment of God’s promises does not depend on our attitude but on His love and faithfulness. Our hope is in Jesus, who is our anchor in this turbulent world.
PRAYER:
Almighty God, help me to ensure my anchor in Christ holds in the storms of life. Amen.
