LIVING TO PLEASE GOD

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE OF THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

DATE: MONDAY, 9TH MAY, 2022

TOPIC: LIVING TO PLEASE GOD

TEXT: 1 PETER 4:1-11

1. Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

2. that he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

3. For we [have spent] enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles -- when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.

4. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with [them] in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of [you.]

5.  They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

6.  For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

7.  But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.

8.  And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins."

9.  [Be] hospitable to one another without grumbling.

10.  As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

11.  If anyone speaks, [let him speak] as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, [let him do it] as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

MESSAGE:

Many people live to please themselves or in line with the traditions of their peer group, community or circle of friends. They may therefore find themselves deep in “lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries” (v.3). Many of us once lived like that before we accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour (Eph. 2:1-3).

Those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God (Gal. 5:19-21).But God’s will for us is that we please Him all the days of our lives (vs. 2, 6). Every aspect of our lives, including our words and actions, should give glory to God (v.11). Christ has already paid the price, and all that we need to please God are available to us through Him (vs. 1, 11). May we therefore determine to please God daily.

PRAYER:

O God, help me to please You in all I say or do every day in Jesus’ name. Amen.

EXCERPTS FROM: 24/7 WARFARE PRAYERS AND SUPERNATURAL BREAKTHROUGH MANUAL

INTRODUCTION Right from childhood, the number “SEVEN” has always been an intrigue, an interesting puzzle, a fascination, and a great phenomenon to me. I was actually born on the seventh day of the month; perhaps this was one of the reasons why something leaps inside of me whenever I see the number. But as I grew up in the Christian faith I began to see a regular reference to it the scriptures. I was kind of saying, whoa! Holy bliss! Seven occurs 257 times, or 7 × 41 Seventh, the fractional part occurs 98 times or 7× 14 Seven –fold occurs 7 times. Seventy occurs 56 times or 7× 8 “Seventy” in combination with other numbers occurs 35 times or 7× 5. God is pleased to stamp the number “Seven” with the seal of perfection and completeness. God never down played the importance of the number, because it was the number of God. It is a carrier of God’s mysteries. It pleased God that, the Seventh man from Adam – Enoch sh
