HARNESSING AI FOR TRANSFORMATIVE COUNSELLING IN DELTA STATE

The Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) Delta State Chapter held its 2026 Annual State Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Dennis Osadebay University Asaba on Tuesday, 10th March 2026. The conference theme was "Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Transformative Counselling," and it brought together members of CASSON from across Delta State, national executives, and invited dignitaries.
In his welcome address, the Chairperson of CASSON, Delta State Chapter, Ven. Dr Peters A. I. Agamugoro, expressed gratitude to members for their dedication and commitment to the counselling profession. He thanked members for their turnout and emphasized the need to harness artificial intelligence for transforming counselling in Delta State and fostering holistic well-being of individuals and the society at large.
The National President of CASSON, Prof. Ike C.S. Ifelunni, also delivered a welcome charge, expressing his delight at the Delta State Chapter's consistent ranking among the top three chapters in the country. He encouraged the chapter to continue its excellent work.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Mrs. Grace Okorodudu from the Department of Guidance and Counselling, Delta State University Abraka, presented a paper on Artificial intelligence for Transformative Counselling, leveraging artificial intelligence for decision-making in school management.

Also, the lead paper presenter, Dr. Moses Ossai, Director of the Career Service Centre, Delta State College of Education Mosogar, elaborated on Transformative Counselling systems through AI applications.
The Co-host of the Conference who is the Vice Chancellor of the University was well represented by Prof. Godwin Oseghale Dean Faculty of Environmental Sciences Dennis Osadebay University.

Other Special Guests who graced the event include; The Hon. Commissioner for Secondary Education,Dr Kingsley Ashibuogu, ably representated by Dr. Michael Emeshili Deputy Director in the Ministry, Dr. Awoke Ejedimu, Permanent Secretary, Post Primary Education Board Delta Central Zone represented the Chairman of the Board Prof Emmanuel Tibi while Mrs. Ebijuwa Kate, CIE Oshimili South LGA also represented the Hon. Commissioner for Primary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu.

The conference featured an Interactive sessions with stakeholders present, also discussions on several sub-themes, including cognitive modelling and behavioural analysis using AI, Transformative Counselling in the Era of AI. Shaping the future of service delivery, AI Transformatiion for curriculum design integration, among others sub themes.

Participants described the conference as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and professional collaboration, noting that the integration of artificial intelligence into counselling practice will help shape the future of educational and psycho-social support systems in the schools and society.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment by stakeholders to explore innovative ways of improving counselling services through technology.

The conference was a significant step towards harnessing artificial intelligence for transformative counselling in Delta State and beyond.

The presence of National President Prof. Ike C. S. Ifelunni, including Dr. Mrs. Edna Abibetu Abidde, National PRO of CASSON, added to the significance of the event, which was seen as a success by all attendees.

The conference was attended by counsellors, educators, and stakeholders from across the state, who all shared in the excitement of exploring the potential of AI in counselling.

The event was a testament to the commitment of CASSON Delta State Chapter to advancing the counselling profession and improving the lives of individuals and communities.

The conference was declared a huge success, with participants looking forward to implementing the knowledge and insights gained.

The event ended with a call to action, urging stakeholders to continue exploring innovative ways to harness AI for transformative counselling.

FIVE NEW FULL FLEDGED ANGLICAN DIOCESES

Five new Dioceses have been created in the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion.
