Archbishop Onuoha Re-elected for Owerri Province as Church of Nigeria holds Episcopal Synod


The Primate of  Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the Most Rev’d Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba has announced the re-election of the Most Rev’d Dr. David Onuoha as the Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province for a second term of five years.


The announcement was made at the end of a brief episcopal synod held today 9th of November, 2025 at the end of the consecration service of 15 new bishops in the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life-camp, Gwarinpa, Abuja.


The Primate who congratulated the newly elected Archbishop, prayed that God will keep working through him and grant him all that he needs to pilot the affairs of the people of God in Owerri Province.


He urged all members of the Church to continue to put the newly consecrated bishops in prayers as they launch into the mission field in their respective areas.


The Anglican Province of Owerri is an ecclesiastical province within the  Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion and is composed of 12 dioceses. It is one of the 14 provinces of the Church of Nigeria.


Archbishop David Onuoha, who is the Bishop of Okigwe South is also the President of the Christian Council of Nigeria, the position he emerged in November 2022.

The Christian Council of Ngeria (CCN) is an ecumenical body founded in 1929 to promote Christian unity, spiritual growth, and social justice in Nigeria. It is a fellowship of mainline Protestant churches  such as the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Nigerian Baptist Convention,  Methodist Church Nigeria and about 12 other Christian organizations that work together on issues such as education, social justice, and national transformation.

FIVE NEW FULL FLEDGED ANGLICAN DIOCESES

Five new Dioceses have been created in the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion.
