TOPIC: MESSAGE OF TRANSFIGURATION
TEXT: LUKE 6 9:28-36
28. Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
29. As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe [became] white [and] glistening.
30. And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,
31. who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
32. But Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him.
33. Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, [that] Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah" -- not knowing what he said.
34. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the cloud.
35. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!"
36. When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. But they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.
MESSAGE:
Jesus climbed a mountain to pray and there He was transformed into His heavenly glory. Jesus was transformed in the presence of three of His disciples, and they beheld His heavenly glory as He really was. The transfiguration was the glorification of the human body of Jesus which shone as brightly as the sun. At the time of transfiguration, Jesus earthly ministry was coming to a close and the appearance of Moses and Elijah with Him at the mount of transfiguration was highly significant. Moses was equated with the Old Testament law which God had given to His people; Elijah was equated with the Old Testament prophets.
The Transfiguration of Jesus revealed certain things to us that are very important. It provides further evidence that Jesus was the Son of God (Luke 9:35cf; Matt. 3:17). It was an endorsement by God that Jesus was His true Son. Moses received the law; Elijah was one of Israel's great prophets, but this scene portrays Jesus' ministry as fulfilling those traditions (Matt. 5:17). “This is my beloved son. Hear Him! When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone” (Luke 9:35, 36). The transfiguration scene of Jesus is a representation of His coming kingdom in its fullness. Jesus Himself talked about it in Matthew 16:28. God's voice from heaven, “Listen to Him”, and the disappearance of Moses and Elijah clearly showed that the law and prophets must give way to Jesus.
PRAYER:
Lord, I want to see Your glory here on earth, and in heaven afterwards, in Jesus' Name. Amen
