“What is the Church? According to Article 19 of the 39 Articles of Religion, “The visible Church is a congregation of faithful men in which the pure word of God is preached and the sacraments duly administered”. I love the way the late Anglican theologian
Dr. John Stott put it. He noted that the church is a multilingual, multicultural, multiracial, inter generational, and multiethnic community of believers who are committed to Christ, Scripture, one another, and to the Mission, ministry and worship of God in the world. That’s what we are celebrating today. We come from different backgrounds and climes and that’s a good thing. We are better of by it.
But there is something else that we as believers must bear in mind with respect to our identity. It is the fact that we are children of God with a glorious future ahead of us in Christ and through faith in Him. That is our uniting and glorious eternal identity. That is what we see in I John 3:1-2”
